Our studies lead to the following conclusions:

1. The radiographic detection of nonstenotic ulcers by single contrast technique is contingent on studies with compression and, if necessary, drug induced hypotonia.

2. Nonstenotic ulcers represent a radiological syndrome of various etiologies, sometimes indeterminate.

3. We found that the incidence of nonstenotic ulcers in Crohn's disease and in Yersinia enterocolitis approached 30%.

4. Associated radiological features and clinical data are essential for the etiological diagnosis.
