The Abuse of Radiographic Tubes

To avoid unnecessary tube replacement, select a tube designed for the specific application at hand, and then insist that technologists observe a few basic rules: (1) follow meticulously the warmup routine prescribed by the manufacturer-never make a diagnostic exposure with a cold tube; (2)do not delay the exposure once the filament has been heated and the rotor has been brought up to speed; (3) consult the tube heat rating chart in any extended study and take care not to exceed the specified limits and (4) never use high speed anode rotation unnecessarily.
